Fourth of July

I am late with this post due to computer problems. But I wanted to say a few things about America before the day is over.

I love America. To me it is an idea that became a nation of people from all over the world. As Americans we have no tie to any one particular ethnic group. We are a conglomerate of ethnic groups. This makes America and Americans special in this world of many nations.

Today my husband and I enjoyed an afternoon at Cantigny Park. We spread our blanket out under some large trees and feasted on a picnic lunch while we listened to the band playing and watched people from all sorts of ethnic groups strolling across the large open lawn between us and the band. It was an American afternoon on a very special American day.

Ending on a light note, America is a young nation. This really hit home when my husband reminded me that he and I have been around more than one fourth as long as this nation. Ha! He just had to tell me that.

Happy 4th of July!

  1. That's absolutely one of my favorite things about America too - I mean, the diversity, not how young the country is and how old we are!

  2. I'm particularly fond of our freedom if I do say so. In many countries of the world I would be put to death for my beliefs and my phyiscal being. I don't always agree with what goes on in America but after travelling throughout the world this country is still the best place I've ever been.

  3. Darius, I live in the Chicago area where we are blessed with an abundance of different ethnic neighborhoods....and their restaurants. Yum!

JG, I agree. It is hard to beat the good old U.S. of A. as Archie Bunker always called it. I just love that show...All in the Family. Of course, there is always going to be work to do on the good old U.S. of A. to make it better than it already is. We will always have to keep our guard up to make sure those freedoms we cherish do not get eroded.

Hey, Dancing Crow. I had forgotten all about you. I will be over to your blog soon to see what you have been up to. Thanks for stopping by, and I will check out that link.

  4. hey susieq; I want you to know I really don't mind you playing the "devils advocate" on my blog. (it's taking me all this time to figure out that's what you are doing.)it makes things alot livelier, for sure.

  5. I am a little behind, but I do have a
good excuse. This time it wss the
network provider and not the computer
    or me.
There were no bands playing in this
    sleepy little community. There were
    veterans standing at attention at
various monuments in other communities and giving speeches. There were a few, mostly older folks, who were sitting and listening under large shade trees, as shown on TV.
I am glad to be reminded that the
spirit of freedom has not been forgotten in your community. And, I
would like to hear This Lane is My
Land sung once in a while.
    Thanks for reminding us SusieQ.

  6. Hey Dancing Crow, it happens to the best of us (leaving comments in the wrong place.) I'm having to curtail my blog activities. Seems I have been letting other things go too much. I'll be back over to your blog and to some others once I am caught up with things which could be a while.

LT, playing the devil's advocate is a dirty job, but somebody has to do it and present that opposing view. I hate to be the skunk at people's picnics, too. It isn't my nature. Thanks for inviting me back.

Hi Sharon, I owe you an email. Look for one.
